In this webinar, the ENTRAINER team presented their three-year LIFE project supporting decarbonization across energy-intensive industries in four countries. The project includes 80 rapid energy scans and 40 full Energy Transition Audits (ETAs), which produce detailed decarbonization action plans. ENTRAINER follows a multisectoral approach, engaging both large industries and SMEs to identify common challenges. Capacity building is a core element, with accredited 5 ECTS and 2 ECTS courses and in-company training that has already reached over 1,000 participants. Four online tools were developed to support auditing, energy monitoring, heat-loss assessment and on-site data collection. The ETAs combine technical, financial, organizational and long-term strategic planning elements, emphasizing both energy and non-energy benefits. Early results include robust emission baselines, sector-specific decarbonization pathways and strong engagement from participating industries. Challenges identified include regulatory barriers, grid constraints for PV adoption, high investment needs and cultural resistance to long-term planning. The project highlights the importance of people—employee engagement, training and collaboration—for successful decarbonization, and calls for coherent EU policies, stronger funding mechanisms, industrial CO₂ passports and governance reforms to support large-scale industrial decarbonization.
