Paradigm shift towards a holistic energy transition audit methodology

EnTRAINER will establish a paradigm shift in the approach of the conventional energy audits, in order to focus on a clear pathway and action plan for the decarbonization.

EnTRAINER will establish a paradigm shift in the approach of the conventional energy audits, in order to focus on a clear pathway and action plan for the decarbonization. For this reason, the project will define the tools to do so, the adapted methodology and templates to perform any complex energy transition audit for high variety of industries.

A crucial fact which has to be changed as a paradigm is that the conventional energy audit reports are in fact focused only on the energy efficiency action plan and less in showing the other multiple benefits related to the energy efficiency implementation. Moreover, by passing to the energy transition audits and decarbonization action plan, the multiple benefits approach we think is mandatory, so as to amplify the audit relevance and power to action, to trigger awareness and training needs and to reflect the involvement of not only the energy specialists, but also of the other key stakeholders (top decision makers, sustainability specialist, environmental specialist, maintenance staff etc.) in relation to the decarbonization action plan to be materialized.

Along with the energy transition audit adapted methodology, this proposed multiple benefits methodology will be Yet, another conventional barrier we see as a must to be removed: the traditional energy audit is requested by law or by the need of cost savings when energy price crisis occur, but afterwards almost limited measures are implemented. This is because the energy audit, although a cost for the Client, has involved the site Energy Manager / Maintenance Manager on the one side and the Energy Auditor (team) on the other side. At this point, in close relation with all the above proposals and paradigm shift, upon the very beginning of the energy transition audit we shall develop a collective approach to involve the following key stakeholders as well: the top decision makers / management to trigger their expectation related to the decarbonization action plan as a result of the energy transition audit, the Energy Manager to be not a beneficiary of the energy efficiency action plan, but an active contributor and internal partner for the energy transition audit, the Environmental Manager as the other internal partner to support the KPIs of the decarbonization action plan reflected in terms of GHG / CO2 reduction, the maintenance, production, technology, account, financial staff and decision makers as key players of not only the energy, CO2 and cost savings quantified results, but also of the indirect other multiple benefits
